Who Is Karen Sun?

Karen Sun is the Executive Director of the Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter (CCNCTO), an organization dedicated to promoting equity, social justice, civic participation, and respect for diversity. Coming to this position from the environmental sector, Karen quickly established herself as a hard working, reliable and politically engaged community-builder. She works creatively to stretch limited resources, as well as finding common ground to collaborate across communities and sectors.

Karen's commitment to the environment includes 10 years of work and volunteering for environmental projects such as the ecological restoration of High Park's Black Oak Savannah; the establishment of an 8 acre urban farm in Toronto's north end; organizing and participating in countless tree planting and similar events around the City. She currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Heritage Toronto, the Working Women Community Centre, and the Conservation Council of Ontario.

Both the 2009 Inaugural DiverseCity by the Toronto City Summit Alliance and the Maytree Foundation named Karen a Fellow for her leadership in strengthening the health and wealth of our City. Karen holds a B.A. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Guelph and a M.A. in Planning from the University of Toronto. Karen was born and raised in Toronto and has been living in the Ward 19 area for more than a decade.
